Alvin Smith

Alvin Albert Smith, age 79, died Saturday, December 7, 2019, at his home in Coopersburg. Born January 8, 1940, in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Samuel M. and Mae (Tomlinson) Smith, and the widower of the late Joan (States) Smith, and the late Joan (Sooy) Smith. Alvin served his country with distinction in the United States Army in the 1960's. Later on, he was employed as a truck driver for many years by firms such as Bond Bread (Philadelphia), Theresa Friedman & Sons (Philadelphia), Adley Express, and FTS (Somerville, NJ). Alvin is survived by: stepdaughters Kathleen Melcher (husband Robert), and Nancy Griffith; stepson David R. Knapp; step-grandchildren Jennifer Moran, Robert Melcher (wife Cadie), Brian Melcher (wife Ilana), Christina Basciano, Christopher Knapp, and Chris Moran; step-greatgrandchildren Gavin, Keaton, Anika, Ezra, Axel, Christopher, and Nicholas; as well as 6 Nieces and 4 Nephews. In addition to his parents and wives, Alvin is preceded in death by: son Michael Smith; step-grandson Christopher Basciano; brothers Samuel M. and Millard E. Smith; sisters Rebecca Dugan, Edith Martino Hamilton, and Jane Mason; and nephews Sammy Smith and Ed Erthal. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at Naugle Funeral & Cremation Service, 135 W. Pumping Station Road, Quakertown. A visitation will take place at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will be private and at the discretion of the family.
