Amy Elizabeth Hreiz, 68, of Quakertown, Pennsylvania, passed away at home surrounded by her family. Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, on January 26, 1958, to Benjamin Franklin Sr. and Marilyn Thorne, Amy grew up in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. She attended Douglass College, now part of Rutgers University, where she studied German. While in college, she met her future husband, Adel, who had recently immigrated from Lebanon. They married on August 22, 1980.
Over the years, Amy and Adel lived in New Brunswick, Piscataway, and Jackson, New Jersey, before moving to Quakertown, Pennsylvania in 1995. Amy worked briefly in the banking industry before becoming a stay-at-home mom and raising their three children. Later in life, she followed in her mother's footsteps by teaching piano, worked as an activities coordinator at an assisted living community, and was an avid volunteer at Last Chance Ranch animal rescue.
Amy was an extraordinary mother, but one of her greatest joys was being a grandmother to her two spirited grandsons. She was kind, empathetic, ferociously loyal, and compassionate, and she treasured her family above all else. She enjoyed staying active and exercising for fun and health, spending time with lifelong friends, and traveling with her family. She especially loved the beach.
Amy is survived by her husband, Adel Hreiz; her son, Jay Hreiz, and his husband, Mike Crisp; her daughter, Marcella Capaldi, and her husband, Phillip; her daughter, Tanya Hreiz; her grandsons, Joseph and Benjamin Capaldi; and her sisters, Wende Fazio and Rebecca Lugara. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Franklin Sr. and Marilyn Thorne, and her brother, Benjamin Franklin Thorne, Jr.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, from 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. at Naugle Funeral & Cremation Service, 135 W. Pumping Station Rd., Quakertown, PA 18951.
