Brian Keith Frederick, 66, of Quakertown, PA, passed away peacefully on January 5th, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, just two months after being diagnosed with bladder cancer. Born in Allentown, PA, Brian was the son of the late Lawrence Frederick and Kay Wear (Kantner).

Brian will be dearly missed by his children, Cheryl Braud (spouse, Steve Braud) and Devin Frederick; his mother, Kay Wear; his grandchildren, Chase Davis (16), Tanner Braud (7), Nina Frederick (14), and Scott Frederick (12); his sibling, Terry Frederick; along with his extended family members and friends.

In addition to his father, Lawrence Frederick, Brian was also predeceased by his brother, Scott Frederick, and his dear friend Dave Alarcon. Brian was married to Leslie Frederick (Focht) from 1978-1997, but they continued to have a friendly relationship thereafter.

Brian attended Quakertown High School, graduating in 1977 then attended Lincoln Technical Institute and received his Associates degree in Specialized Technology. His first job was at Yeakel’s Bakery in Quakertown.

He then began working at the now family business, Bucks County Fur Products in 1979, took ownership in 2010 and worked there for 45 years until he retired in 2024. The business started with tanning rabbits and other game animals, however, over the years the business evolved to primarily processing sheep pelts which has become one of the only and most well known sheep tanneries in the country. Brian learned how to sew, creating his own unique products from Freddies Teddies, to the well known Muffs, slippers, mittens, and hats we all love today. Cheryl and Devin plan to continue with the tannery and the Muffs that hundreds of disc golfers use to keep their hands warm during winter.

Brian’s passion for life extended well beyond his professional endeavors. He loved the outdoors: disc golf, camping, hiking, fishing, hunting, archery, snowmobiling, sports and cars. His first car at age 15, was a 1969 candy apple red Boss 302 Mustang Fastback 4speed that brought him great joy (and frustration). He then drove a 1970’s Datsun 620 pickup, a small Ford Festiva, dubbed “the golf cart” and then began the Honda Element trend in our area, adorned with his custom PA license plate, DSC GLF.

Brian’s greatest passion was the sport of disc golf that he first found while camping at French Creek in approximately 1994 using lids (standard frisbees). In 1997, while at Jordan Creek he discovered actual disc golf and was hooked immediately. He went on to receive numerous achievements and grew to be known to the community as more than a disc golfer but a legendary icon and mentor, helping to shape the sport and the disc golf community. He was known to the disc golf community as Bfred, Old Man, or the Bearded Wizard . In his early years he was known to his friends as Freddie.

He was an active member of the Lehigh Valley Disc Club (LVDC), Nockamixon Disc Golf Club, and the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA #16286), among several other organizations over his years. He played 295 PDGA events and countless unsanctioned events. He was on the LVDC board of directors as Club Treasurer for over 10 years.

In the late 1990s, Brian, amongst others, designed, built, and maintained the disc golf course at Nockamixon - noted to be one of the most difficult courses in the world and was used in the World Championships in 2005.

In 2018, Brian was recognized as a Stewardship Volunteer through Innova for his profound efforts towards sport growth and volunteerism as he was always first to volunteer for workdays on various courses; weed wacking, mowing grass, installing tee pads, building bridges, digging ditches, moving baskets or spotting throws during events.

In 2022 he was elected into the PA Disc Golf Hall of Fame.

He was more than a disc golfer. He was a mentor, a friend, a familiar face who made others feel welcome and included. He had a way of lifting people up and sharing his knowledge freely. Brian leaves behind a community that is better because of him. His legacy lives on in the friendships he formed, the people he inspired and the spirit of camaraderie he helped foster. He will always be remembered as an essential part of the community and will be profoundly missed by all.

Brian always had a special place in his heart for his children and grandchildren; always talking highly of them and supporting them in every way possible. He was their biggest cheerleader.
