Catherine A. McDermott died peacefully at home on Sunday, March 29, 2026. She was 95.
Born in Abington Township, she was the wife of the late Edward C. McDermott and the daughter of the late James M. and Catherine (Mullen) Brogan of Jenkintown, where she grew up.
She is survived by her sons, Joseph (Yvonne) and Gregory (Dawn); her daughter, Mary McDermott; grandchildren, Kelly McDermott Stoudt, Sean, Ryan and Brianna McDermott; and great-grandchildren, Allison and Kyle Stoudt and Braiden McDermott.
She was preceded in death by sons Daniel, Dermot, and Timothy McDermott and all seven of her siblings.
Affectionately known as Grandmom or G-Mom to a generation of Quakertown kids. She was always there when others needed her, whether it was just a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, an open ear, or to help with care, a ride to the store or doctor, or last-minute or long-term babysitting.
She had joy for life and helping, and her home was always open to those who needed a space, whether it was a few hours, a few days or a few weeks.
She worked as manager for The Stockroom for Men clothing store in Quakertown and later served as customer service manager at Hess’s/The Bon Ton, also in Quakertown.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 9 at St. Isidore’s Roman Catholic Church, 2545 W. Pumping Station Rd, Quakertown, PA 1895. Calling hours will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. before the Mass.
Interment to follow at St. Isidore’s Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Quakertown PA.
