Daniel W. "Dan" Schantz, 92, passed away peacefully on July 9, 2026. Born on March 29, 1934, Dan lived a life defined by faith, hard work, service to his community, and devotion to his family.

Dan was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mildred, with whom he shared a lifetime of love, partnership, and adventure.

He is lovingly remembered by his son, Thomas Schantz (Ann), and his daughter, Connie Schantz; his five grandchildren, Nicole Schieck (Josiah), Tad Schantz (Erin), Brandon Schantz (Lauren), Andrew Schantz, and Chelsie King; and his four great-grandchildren, Callen and Riley Schantz, and Millie and Eli Schieck. In addition to his wife, Mildred, Dan is also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Alice (Schantz) Conrad.

Agriculture was not simply Dan's livelihood—it was his passion. A lifelong fruit and vegetable grower, he spent many years raising quality produce and selling it at farmers markets throughout the Lehigh Valley and surrounding communities. His greatest pride, however, was building Dan Schantz Farm & Greenhouses into one of the region's most respected horticultural businesses. Known throughout the Lehigh Valley for its outstanding seasonal plants and flowers, the greenhouse operation supplied both retail customers and major retailers across the region.

Dan's leadership extended well beyond his own business. He was a dedicated member of the Pennsylvania Vegetable Growers Association, serving on its Board of Directors for more than 40 years, including three terms as president. His knowledge and commitment to Pennsylvania agriculture led to his appointment by the Governor of Pennsylvania to the Pennsylvania Produce Marketing Board, where he served as chairman for nine years and as secretary for several terms. In recognition of his outstanding contributions to agriculture, he received the prestigious Mid-Atlantic Master Farmers Award in 1987.

Throughout his life, Dan generously gave his time and talents to organizations that reflected his faith and values. He served on the Board of Directors of Spruce Lake Retreat, a Christian camp in the Pocono Mountains, and on the board of the M.A.M.A. Project, helping provide nutritional and medical assistance to those in need in Honduras.

Dan was also well known throughout the Lehigh Valley for his entrepreneurial spirit. He founded and promoted the Great Eastern Antique Shows for 36 years, hosting successful events in Allentown and several other cities. His vision and leadership made the shows a destination for collectors and dealers from across the region.

Dan and Mildred shared a love of travel and treasured the many cruises and land tours they enjoyed throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe, creating lasting memories together.

At the center of Dan's life was his unwavering Christian faith. He was a lifelong, active member of Swamp Mennonite Church in Quakertown, where he faithfully served as a trustee for more than 50 years. He also served on Church Council and participated in numerous other church ministries and organizations, quietly dedicating himself to serving both his church family and the broader community.

Dan will be remembered for his integrity, vision, generous spirit, and tireless work ethic. Whether nurturing crops, growing a business, mentoring others, serving his church, or spending time with his family, he approached every endeavor with dedication and humility. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the businesses he built, the organizations he strengthened, and the countless lives he touched throughout the Lehigh Valley and beyond.
