D. Richard Wimmer

       D. Richard “Dick” Wimmer, Jr., age 79, of Quakertown, Pennsylvania, passed away on March 11, 2024, at Phoebe Richland Cottage. He was the husband of Rosemary (Nee Shuhler) Wimmer, with whom he shared nearly 48 years of marriage. Born in Sellersville, PA, he was a son of the late Donald Richard Wimmer Sr. and the late Beatrice Weaver Wimmer.

Richard graduated from Quakertown High School in 1962.

He honorably and proudly served our country in the United States Naval Construction Battalions, better known as the Navy Seabees during the Vietnam War. He was a heavy equipment operator. His detachment was tasked with creating and/or improving runways and infrastructure in support of advancing Marine forces. He ultimately earned the rank of equipment operator 2nd class (EO2) and received a Vietnam Service Medal for his efforts.

Following his return to civilian life, he was a heavy equipment operator for JD Morrisey. Projects he worked on included portions of Interstate 80 construction, the Rte. 611 bypass, and several runways at the Philadelphia International Airport. Later, he would join Biehn Construction as a project estimator. He was involved in the construction of several Jamesway store locations, as well as other commercial property and construction. Finally, he joined the Moyer Packing Company (Mopac) as project coordinator. There, he was charged with managing and completing substantial additions to the packing and distribution floors, as well as several other construction projects on the campus and satellite locations.

In his personal life, he was a member of the American Legion post 242 in Quakertown and the Springfield Township Lions Club. He was a lifetime member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Richlandtown. He served the residents of Springfield Township in various capacities including roadmaster and township supervisor. He enjoyed deer hunting, traveling in the motorhome, snow-birding in Davenport, FL in the winter and Penn State and East Stroudsburg Football games and tailgating.

He will be remembered for his charming demeanor and smile (sometimes mischievous), his love for his family (especially his grandchildren), his unwavering support of his friends, and his genuine ability to befriend nearly everyone. There weren’t too many places he would go where he didn’t meet an acquaintance. If he didn’t meet an acquaintance there, he likely made a new one before he left. Consequently, it earned him the nickname of “The Mayor” to family and close friends.

In addition to his wife Rosie, he is survived by two sons, Michael Wimmer and his wife, Lisarose, of Limeport, PA; and Jason Wimmer and his wife, Corey, of Clarks Summit, PA; one brother, Dennis Wimmer and his wife, Barbara, of Quakertown, PA; and five grandchildren, Audra, Olivia, Callen, Ryan and Marleah. He was predeceased by a brother Roger.
