Durrell L. Benner

Durrell "Smokey" L. Benner, age 74, of Coopersburg, Pennsylvania, passed away on October 21, 2026 at Phoebe Richland Health Care Center in Richlandtown, PA.

Durrell shared 54 years of marriage with his wife, Susan (Ludwig) Benner. He was the son of the late Robert and Melba (Slotter) Benner of Richlandtown, PA.

Durrell graduated from Quakertown High School Class of 1970. He was a member of St. John's U.C.C., Richlandtown, PA. Smokey was a Past Master at Saucon & Prosperity Lodge No. 469 in Coopersburg, PA.

He was a bartender at the Coopersburg Fire Co. Social Quarters for 40+ years. After retirement in 2017 he worked part-time at Locust Valley Golf Course, Coopersburg, PA, then at Shepherd Hlls Golf Course in Wescoesville until 2023.

Smokey was an avid golfter from his youth and achieved 4 holes in one at 3 different courses, two at Wedgewood Golf Course, one at Locust Valley Golf Course, and one at Shepherd Hills Golf Course. He enjoyed golfing at many different golf courses from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Myrtle Beach, SC, Florida, California and Hawaii. His golf clubs always travelled with him on vacation.

In addition to his wife Susan, he is survived by his brother Jerry (Donna) Benner of Coopersburg, many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews as well as a great grandniece and 2 great grand nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Dalton and Dale, and nephew Dalton Benner Jr.

You are invited to visit with Durrell's family and friends from 1 PM to 2 PM on Saturday, October 31st, at St. John's UCC, Richlandtown, PA. A Masonic Service will begin at 2 PM, with the Memorial Service immediately following. Interment will be held privately. 

Contributions in his memory may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children.
