Springfield Township

Gustave "Gus" Scheerbaum Jr., of Pleasant Valley, Springfield Township, passed away August 13, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and love. Born on September 23, 1939, to Margaret (Hartman) and Gustave Scheerbaum in Philadelphia, Gus was brought up surrounded by family and community, values he carried with him throughout his life.

Fortunate to find a deep love later in life, he was a devoted husband to Nancy (Hottle) for the last 9 years. Gus's life was enriched by his work and the many people he touched along the way. He spent 50 years as a restaurant manager, a career that allowed his natural hospitality and gregarious nature to shine. He was most notably known for his work at Trainer's Restaurant in Quakertown and The Country Club Restaurant on Cottman Avenue in Philadelphia. After a long and fulfilling career, Gus retired in 2010, leaving behind countless memories and friendships formed through his dedication to his craft.

Gus was also a proud and active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Pleasant Valley, where his faith and kindness were evident to all who knew him. His presence in the church community will be sorely missed. He was also a member of Masonic Lodge #512, Quakertown, for 50 years and a long time enthusiastic officer and member of the Springfield Township Historical Society.

Above all, Gus was a family man, deeply cherished by his loved ones. He is survived by his children: daughter Stacy, (Brian Kress) of Bethlehem; son Gustave, (Kevin Broad) of Philadelphia; and daughter Joanna, (David LaFaver) of Lower Macungie. He was also a loving stepfather to Debbie, (Kenneth Keller) of Hellertown; Betsy, (Jim Nilsen) of Pleasant Valley; and Bonnie, (Tim Wright) of Coudersport, PA. Brother, George (Patricia) of Lafayette Hill, sister, Louise (William DiMascio) of Columbus, Ohio and brother, Harry (Susan) of Collingswood, NJ. He is pre deceased by his brother Louis Scheerbaum.

Gus's legacy continues through his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy: Arielle and Daxton; Emma, Annie, Bennett and Leah; as well as Ken, Robert, Andrea and Nicholas; Danielle, Alexander and Elizabeth; Timothy, Sarah, Peter, Alison and Isaac; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Known for his warm hospitality, his infectious laugh, and his larger-than-life personality, Gus will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, and his spirit will forever be a part of the many lives he touched.

May he rest in peace.
