Listen to Obituary

Leslie Hovind, 90, of Hellertown, Coopersburg & Anoka County, MN, passed away peacefully, at St Luke's Hospice House on June 18, 2026. He was born in Anoka County, MN on January 10, 1936 to the late Lawrence and Grace (Kohler) Hovind. Les was the loving husband of Catalina, they celebrated 66 years of marriage on May 14, 2026.

Les loved his time in the service as a US Navy Seabee where he traveled to Morrocco, Cuba to build the fence at Guantanamo Bay (Gitmo), and wintering over in Antarctica for Operation Deep Freeze III to build the US Navy base. The service is also what led him to the love of his life. He met Catalina on a weekend leave to PA. He loved gardening, going to the lake, trying unsuccessfully to waterski and providing his family and neighbors alike with cherry tomatoes the size of golf balls and the sweetest tasting corn. His other big love was feeding his family from cooking steaks on the hibachi, filling the freezer with meat or making the best popcorn that has yet to be replicated. He was a hard-working man and a proud Teamster who saw a career as a janitor, draftsman and truck driver, across multiple companies that included Bethlehem Steel, Matlack, Schwerman, Yellow Freight, St Johnsbury, Durkin & Sons, and USPS.

Leslie is survived by his children Lawrence Hovind (Lisa), Theresa Hovind, and Thomas Hovind (Katelyn); grandchildren Lawson, Luke, and John "Jack" Hovind; sister Barbara Thompson; brothers Harvey "Rick" Hovind (Marge), and Doug Hovind (Sharon); and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his wife Catalina (DeLeon); his parents; son Lancelot Hovind; and sister Lavonne Dale.

Leslie will be laid to rest at Calvary Cemetery, 5050 Saint Joseph's Rd, Coopersburg on Thursday, June 25, 2026 at 11am with a graveside service.
