Mary Ann Atkinson

Mary Ann Atkinson, 82, of Quakertown, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at Phoebe of Richlandtown. She was the daughter of Herman and Caroline (Ahlum) Yeakel. Mary Ann grew up at Flatland Mennonite Church of Quakertown, enjoying summer camp at Camp Men-O-Lan. She graduated from Quakertown High School in 1961, marrying M. Richard Atkinson in 1963, with whom she shared 40 years of marriage. After high school, Mary Ann worked as a bookkeeper for the former Dimmig Electric of Quakertown. Some years were spent as an administrative assistant for Sullivan, Booz & Co., CPAs, followed by many years as a teller for Bucks County Bank and Trust Company, eventually becoming Wells Fargo.

Mary Ann was predeceased by her husband, Rich, in 2004. She is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Lamar) Nisly of Bluffton, Ohio, and Sharon (Matthew) Wenzel of Quakertown; grandchildren, Jonathan (Brooke) Lacock-Nisly, Elizabeth (Christopher) Harnish-Nisly, Annalise Mei Nisly, Katherine Wenzel and Megan Wenzel; and great-grandchild Sky Harper Lacock-Nisly.

Mary Ann was an active member over the years at both Flatland Mennonite and East Swamp Mennonite Churches. She was briefly a pianist at Flatland as well as a Vacation Bible School teacher. At East Swamp Mennonite, she sang in the choir and served as an assistant Sunday School teacher.

Those who knew Mary Ann were aware of her enthusiasm for yard sales. This was a beloved hobby. She was able to see the value and worth in things that may otherwise fall by the wayside. Mary Ann spent hours mending, fixing and cleaning items she found at sales and thrift stores. She assembled pieces that belonged together after weeks and months spent searching for just the right item. Many people, as well as some daycares, looked forward to her annual garage sales because they could count on finding quality items that had been given a lot of loving attention.

The second passion close to her heart was Operation Christmas Child, the ministry of Samaritan’s Purse that assembles gift-filled shoe boxes for children in need around the world. Knowing that so many of her purchases would eventually brighten a child’s day meant so much to her.

All are invited to a visitation on Sunday, July 26, from 2:00 ~ 3:00pm, located at Flatland Church, 180 W. Thatcher Road, Quakertown, PA 18951. A funeral service will begin at 3:00. Burial will take place privately.
