Listen to Obituary

Mary Daniels Levy, 82, of Quakertown, PA, died peacefully in her home on November 20, 2025. She walked a courageous path with Alzheimer’s disease, greeting each day with grace and joy until the end. Born in Philadelphia on October 9, 1943, Mary was the daughter of the late Thomas Daniels and the late Marguerite Daniels (Scott).

After high school (Little Flower High School class of 1957), she explored a few different vocations before meeting a well-established bachelor with a Jaguar XT; in 1967, she married Jerome Levy to start her next life chapter.

She embraced home making and dreamed of a big family. She focused on raising two daughters for several years. When her eldest attended a local co-op preschool, she got involved as a volunteer and found her passion for social work.

Mary attended Temple University and graduated in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in social work. She worked at a law firm while attending night school, earning her master’s degree in organizational management from Antioch University in 1980.

Mary started her career in social work with the York County Nursing Home as a caseworker and then moved to the York County Area Agency On Aging in 1984 to work as an administrative analyst. Meanwhile, the family settled into their new home in New Oxford, PA. After working (and advancing) four short years within the agency, she became the Acting Director in 1987. She was appointed Director in 1988 and served for many years before moving over to the York County Children & Youth agency as Director in 1995.

Mary retired from York County after 22 years of service in 2005. That same year, Jerry and Mary moved to Moyock, NC, and enjoyed spoiling their grandchildren (including two dogs). She also spent some years at Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia as a consultant. After Jerry passed away in 2011, she moved to Quakertown, PA, to spoil her youngest grandchild while living with her youngest daughter and husband.

Her passion for life extended well beyond her professional endeavors; in Mary’s free time, she enjoyed cross-stitch, reading, and travel.

Mary will be dearly missed by her children, Jennifer Levy Gillespie (Sean) and Marguerite Levy Paluch (Brian); her grandchildren, Miryam Ruth Levy, Jack Amichai Levy, Meaghan Isaac Levy, Liliana Paluch; her siblings, Rita Daniels and Maggie Candido; along with her extended family and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, Mary is predeceased by her brother, Al Daniels, and son, Adam Levy, who died three days after his birth in 1972.
