Listen to Obituary

Richard "Rich" L. Frantz, 74, of Quakertown, Pennsylvania, passed away in the early morning hours of Thursday, June 18, 2026, while in the loving care of the dedicated staff at the Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Born on December 8, 1951, Rich was the son of the late Paul T. Frantz and Betty Lou Frantz. He was preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Oswald, and her husband, David.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Deborah "Todd" Frantz. He was the proud father of Jason Frantz, Ashley Frantz, and Michael Frantz. Rich cherished his role as "Pop-Pop" and leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Austin Baker, Richard Joseph "RJ" Frantz, Mason Frantz, and Penelope "Penny" Frantz, all of whom brought immeasurable joy to his life.

He is also survived by his brothers, Russell "Rusty" Frantz and his wife, Diane, and Ronald Frantz and his wife, Karen, along with their families.

Following in the footsteps of his father, who served in World War II as a bomber navigator, Rich enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1970 prior to graduating from high school. Rich proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and was stationed at Da Nang Air Base, where he attained the rank of Sergeant. He was honorably discharged from the Air Force in 1974.

Following his military service, Richard built a successful career in the HVAC industry, where he took great pride in his work as an Electrical Engineer. He was highly respected by fellow colleagues and clients alike for his professionalism, knowledge, and dedication.

In his spare time, Rich enjoyed making his famous Pop-Pop pancakes and took great joy in being the head "stuffer stocker" each Christmas-a title he humorously gave himself for making sure everyone's stockings were filled. He personally built two of his homes, enjoyed playing golf, coaching the Gettysburg Teener League baseball team, and watching the Little League World Series.

Rich was a self-described workaholic, but those who knew him best understood that his tireless work ethic was rooted in the values instilled in him from an early age and in his unwavering devotion to his family. He took great pride in providing for those he loved, and his legacy of hard work, dedication, and commitment will continue to live on through the family he so dearly loved and to whom he was strongly devoted to.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center, 401 Penn Avenue, Scranton, PA 18503, in appreciation of their compassionate care and unwavering dedication to our nation's veterans.

Rich's memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
